MINI WEDGE RACING
RULES and REGULATIONS
The
following are rules for Mini Wedges.
Cars may be built from existing go-carts or may be of new construction.
Rules may change or be added at any time Midway
SECTION
1: CAR:
Section
1:a: Wheelbase
45” - 49” Max Width (outside tires) 42” Minimum ground clearance 2” No
roofs.
Section
1:b All
cars must be constructed of steel tubing with a complete 4-point roll cage
including adequate side protection cage must be minimum .083 by 1” steel
tubing welded to frame.
Section
1:c Engine
must be behind driver’s seat
Section
1:d Floor
pan required of steel or minimum .063 aluminum securely fastened to frame must
fully cover from seat front to past pedals.
Section
1:e All
cars must have body with fully enclosed wheels and tires. No open wheel cars
permitted.
Section
1:f
You have the option to run Knobbie Tires sizes 4.10 x 3.50-4, 4.10 x
3.50-5 or 4.10 x 3.5-6. Slicks also allowed with sizes 5.10/ 11.10 x6 or 33.0/4.5 x6
Section
1:g No
suspension allowed, no springs, shocks, rubbers, torsion bars of any type
permitted.
Section
1:h Max
Rear deck height 24” high from ground. 20” minimum height from ground plus
or minus 1”.
Section
1:i
Body must be made of .040 aluminum only. Plastic may be used for nose and
trim.
Section
1:j
Any chassis bars above 6” from ground, cannot have more than 2” of
protruding ends this includes body brackets and supports.
Measurement will be made from closest welded joint.
Section
1:k Side
crash bars must be flush with outside of front and rear wheels plus or minus
1/2”.
Section
1:1 Side
crash bars must run length wise from at least center of rear wheel hub to center
of front wheel hub.
Section
1:m Side
crash bar must be at least 1” round or square tubing. 083 minimum wall
thickness.
Section
1:n Side
crash bars must be welded to main frame in no less than 4 places with at least
3/4” .083 tubing.
Section
1:o At
least one vertical door bar must be welded on each side of driver running from
main frame rail to side crash bars for driver’s protection.
Must be 3/4” or larger .083 wall.
(See rear, side view drawing “D”).
Section
1:p Front
and rear bumpers must be at least 3/4” .083 tubing.
Section
1:q Bottom
of control pedals must connect to frame behind front down tubes.
Section
1:r Front
down tubes are mandatory. Rear down
tubes are optional.
Section
1:s All
tubing on main roll cage including side crash bar and bumpers must be minimum
.083 wall thickness.
Section
1:t Vertical
support posts (see side view drawing “A”) must run from main frame rail to
top of roll cage, be welded on both ends and be constructed of at least 1”
round or square tubing. 083 wall thickness. Must be one right and one left
positioned near driver’s shoulder and run near parallel with back of seat.
Section
1:u Seat
mounts (4) required must be constructed from no less than 3/4” .083 wall
tubing or 3/16” thick flat
material and all mounts must be welded to main frame.
NO clamp on mounts permitted.
Section
1:v All
cars must have horizontal cross bar behind the seat, positioned about half way
between bottom frame rails and top
of roll cage constructed of no less than 3/4” .083 wall tubing and welded to
vertical support post. (see “B” rear view drawing).
Section
1:w All
cars must have a 12” minimum number on both sides of car, if your number is
too small or not easy to read , you may not be scored.
Section
1:x Aluminum
or steel padded seats are highly recommended and mandatory on all Mini Wedges.
Section
1:y Throttle
pedal or control rod must have a return spring along with a return spring on
carburetor throttle linkage.
Section
1:z Brakes
must be in proper adjustment and in safe working order.
Section
1:aa Two kill
switches must be on the car and must both shut down motor separately.
One must be
located in cockpit and within driver’s reach, second kill switch must be
located at top left rear corner of roll cage (See rear view drawing “C”)
Section
1:bb No kill
buttons. All kill switches must be a ON\OFF type switch.
Section
1:cc All cars
must have a metal chain guard.
Section
1:dd All cars
must weigh 260 pounds after race with driver. Cars can be weighed at any time.
Section 1:ee Any
weight added to car MUST be bolted or welded to frame.
Section
1:ff All
frame work except upper roll cage, MUST be within the body lines of the car.
SECTION
2
:ENGINES:
Section
2:a Power
must be transmitted by a centrifugal type clutch. No direct drive or push start
cars allowed. No variable drive
systems. No belt drives.
Section
2:b Engines
must be 5HP four-stroke Briggs & Stratton ONLY. All parts must be Briggs
& Stratton factory production parts unless otherwise specified in this
manual.
Section
2:c Mufflers
and exhaust maybe be changed.
Section
2:d No
use of alcohol.
Section
2:e Governor
may be removed or unhooked.
Section
2:f Cars
must be recoil start permanently attached to the motor.
SECTION
3 :PRE-PACE,
RACE and POST RACE PROCEDURES:
Section
3:a All
drivers must be accompanied by a PARENT or LEGAL GUARDIAN ONLY. Unless you are
appointed his/her legal guardian, by law, you cannot sign a release form for
them. Therefore, they cannot race.
Any exception to this rule must be brought before the race tracks’ management
and/or the race tracks’ insurance carrier for a decision.
Section
3:b At
race tracks where it is necessary to enter the Pits to register and/or race,
only ONE (1) Parent or Guardian may enter with driver without pit passes, this
can be done only after buying a general
admission ticket or tickets.
Section
3:c No
one will be admitted into the pits without pit pass or general admission ticket.
Without a pit
pass you will be asked to leave the pits in a reasonable amount of time after
the Mini Wedge race is over. (This
has more to do with insurance then it does with money).
Section
3:d Registration
will be shut off at 6:30 . If vou miss shut off time, you will tack the
tail.
Section
3:e All
cars will be lined up according to their pill draw.
Section
3:f
You need to know exactly when you will be racing and allow yourself
plenty of time to prepare your driver. (Buckling in, etc.)
Section
3:g Track
Officials are not responsible to hunt you down so you will not miss a race. Be
prepared to race on a moment’s notice. If you are not in your car when your
race is called you will be left behind.
Section
3:h Cars
will be lined up on front straightway of race track just as they were in the
pits, according to pill draw.
Section
3:i
To start the race, the flagman will bring cars slowing towards him and
then will wave green flag.
Section
3: j All
cars must stay in lineup order, bumper to bumper, until green flag waves.
Absolutely NO jumping start.
Section
3:k The
race will continue without cautions until one lap to go at which time the white
flag will be waved, followed one lap
later by the checkered flag.
Section
3:1 Any
car jumping the start or witnessed rough driving will be disqualified and earn
no points for that race. Driver will receive a warning. If he/she does it a
second time, disqualified for 2 weeks, 3rd time,
out for the whole year.
Section
3:m All
scoring and judgment calls will be made by track officials in scoring tower.
THEIR DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
Section
3:n Track
Officials do not have to, and WILL NOT put up with any arguments about scoring a
judgment calls. Any arguing with a track official or another parent could result
in at least a two-week ban from the speedway.
Section
3:o Scoring
tower is off limits to all drivers and anyone who is not a Track Staff member.
Section
3:p Parents
who are helping on the race track need to always watch oncoming cars. When there
is an accident, get the car OFF the track, either to infield or guardrail, which
ever is closest, then you may try to restart.
Section
3:q If
you are standing behind where a accident occurs, step out on the track and force
oncoming cars high or low to miss
accident and track workers working on accident.
Section
3:r When
helping with an accident DO NOT instruct any cars still racing to slow down. You
may
instruct cars on how to avoid the accident.
Section
3:s The
flagman may stop the race with a red flag if he or official feels a dangerous
situation is
occurring or has occurred, in which case every track worker needs to assist as
best as they can to stop all cars.
SECTION
4 :DRIVER’S
PERSONAL SAFETY:
Section
4:a Age
limit is 5 years through 13 years old. You MUST provide a copy of birth
certificate before first race at registration. This is in effect for all
drivers, even if you have raced with Mini Wedge before.
Section
4:b All
drivers must wear an approved SFI-1 certified or SFI3-2A/1 fire suit.
SFI certification patch required on suit.
Section
4:c All
drivers must wear at least a D.O.T. certified helmet with eye and mouth
protection. A full faced Snell-rated
helmet and is mandatory at all events.
Section
4:d All
drivers must wear neck brace.
Section
4:e All
drivers must wear arm restraints.
Section
4:f
All cars must be equipped with a four (4) point harness system with at
least 1 3/4” minimum belts.
Section
4:g All
drivers must wear a closed toed shoe, no sandals, flip flops, etc.
Section
4:h Fire
proof gloves are mandatory at all events.

SECTION
5 :TECH
INSPECTION:
Section
5:a Track
Officials will visually inspect all cars at any time.
Section
5:b Track
Tech inspector may show up at any race at any race track and do a motor tear
down on any car he/she chooses. The inspectors may not be the same person at
each track. Usually the top finishing cars will be chosen.
Section
5:c The
Tech inspector may tear a motor down as far as he thinks is necessary.
Section
5:d Any
minor infraction you are asked to change, MUST be taken care of before your next
race.
