Midway Speedway 2008 Limited Late Model Rules

*all changes have been noted in red.

The following specifications have been prepared by Midway Speedway as guidelines for the construction of a Limited Late Model. In conjunction, no warranty of safety is expressed or implied as a result of this publication. These rules are intended as a guide and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators, or others. The track officials should approve anything not covered by these rules.  Continuous developments in auto racing and technology may necessitate changes in these specifications. However, it is our intent to enforce and police these rules throughout the 2007 season. If a change is necessary, technical bulletins will be prepared and distributed in advance.

NO RADIOS

1. CHASSIS/FRAME

A. Late Model Chassis permitted.

B. 2x2 tubing or round tubing minimum for frame construction.

C. Minimum 4 point roll cage 1 ½ O.D. minimum w/ 3-door bar driver side and 2 door bar passenger side.

D. 101" wheel base minimum.

E. There must be a lifting hook securely attached to the frame at both front and rear of vehicle. Lifting hook must be easily accessible by tow truck operator.

F. WEIGHT RULE: 2,400 lbs. minimum weight. The top (3) cars will be checked at the end of the race only. Illegal weight cars will be disqualified. Cars with Aluminum heads must add 50 lbs in front of the Engine Plate.

2. BODY

A. Any American made steel production body. Fabricated aluminum bodies will be permitted.


B. Plastic nose allowed.

C. 8" spoiler permitted.


3. SUSPENSION

A. Weight jacks allowed.

B. Coil overs / front & rear. 1 per wheel.

C. Lay down / shimmy shock on rear end allowed.

D. Racing shocks allowed, mounted any location.

E. Lift bar allowed.

F. Coil over eliminator allowed.

G. Weights must be bolted on or clamped.

H. SHOCKS: No Schrader valves, No canister or adjustable shocks.


4. ENGINE

A-1. If you have a 602 or 604 Crate Engine you will receive a 100 lb weight break and will only be required to have a total weight of 2300 lb.

A. Any American production made 6 or 8 cycle engine allowed.

B. No aluminum blocks.

C. Aluminum intake permitted.

D. Headers allowed.

E. No electric fuel pumps allowed. 
 
F. Engine setback can be no more than 6" from center of top ball joint to #1 plug on left side.

G. May interchange engine w/ body and/or chassis. EX: Ford engine to GM body etc.

H. NO DRY SUMP ENGINES - new for 2007
5. CARBURETORS

A: Stock Holley 4412, 2 barrel Carbs only.

B: 4412 2 Barrel must remain stock appearing.

C: Choke plate and housing may be removed. 

D: Bore and throttle plate must remain stock. 

E:. Carb must be stock bore from top to bottom.

6. FUEL

A. Gasoline only. No nitrous or alcohol.

B. Fuel cell MANDATORY.

7. BRAKES

A. Must have 4 wheel brakes.

B. Drum or disc allowed.

8. TRANSMISSION

A. BERT transmissions allowed.

B. Must have working clutch w/ 1 forward and reverse gears.

C. No direct drive. No in-out box .

9. REAREND

A. Floater rear end or quick change.

B. Wide five hubs permitted.

10. WHEELS AND TIRES

A. Steel wheels only. 10" maximum width. Beadlocks will be permitted.

B. 8” Racing Tires Only.

 
C. 1" Hex lug nuts highly recommended.

11. SAFETY

A. Drive shaft loop required and must be constructed of at least 1/4" by 2" steel and should be mounted no more than 6" back from front of drive shaft.

B. Fire proof driver uniform mandatory. Fire proof gloves highly recommended. Flame resistant coveralls are not permitted.

C. Approved racing seat with appropriate tubular framing only. No. Factory production type seats of any kind.

D. 5-point safety harness required. 3" lap belt and shoulder harness w/ aircraft quick-release type latch. NO passenger car belts of any type. Belts must be two years or less.

E. Snell 85 approved helmet.

F. Fuel cell required - NO EXCEPTION

G. Must be at least 3 bars in front of driver (windshield).

H. Battery must be securely mounted. If mounted inside driver compartment must be enclosed in approved marine type container.

I. 2 ½ pound dry chemical fire extinguisher with gauge, charged, located within easy reach of the driver and securely mounted. NO TAPE.

J. Drive shaft must be painted white.

12. APPEARANCE

A. Cars should be neatly painted w/ 18" high numbers on side and 24" high on roof, and all numbers to be 3" thick.

B. All cars must be neat in appearance, painted to look like a racecar, and be neatly lettered.

C. Badly wrecked cars must be straightened. If you show up with a beat up race car, you will lose all points for that night.
